where can i find good piano lessons in chicago?
Have not been practise piano for a long time. Going to start my lessons soon. How do I start to practise.?
I will be starting my piano lessons in beginning of November. I should be in grade five now. However i did not practise for many many years. I feel like i am lower than grade five. can anyone please tell me what should i do to improve and what type of pieces or grade should i start practising. Your advice will be a great help to me. Kindly appreciated your help. Thanks!
Your teacher will be able to help you a lot! You will "catch up" in no time, I promise.
You could go to a local music store and buy a beginner’s book, or call your teacher and ask what book she recommends. You could also do some searches online to review the notes and maybe find some free sheet music to try.
Don’t worry about your playing level. Playing is fun, and you don’t want to spoil the fun by worrying about it!
To be a successful music producer, do i need to take piano lessons?
i make beats and i want to take em to the next level. this month i start college and i’m taking a piano lessons. will that help out my music production?
Any musical knowledge will help you become a better producer. Even if it means being able to relate to your musicians better… it will help with learning terms and techniques that can be used in a recording.
Its also great if you need to programme samples yourself on the keyboard.
Logic, Reson, Cubase etc.. all include keyboard functions… so yeah of course learning piano will help.
For example, you have a beat… And you want a synth bass line, your piano skills will make it easier to work out and even give you more ideas about new melodies.
My opinion …
Im 18, I want to start teaching piano lessons. Is that a good idea?
I have been playing the piano for five years. I can read music well and have books up to Repetoire level 9, but I mostly learn all the music I play by ear. A lot of people say I’m quite good. I want to take on a second job, and I was thinking maybe I could teach piano lessons to kids for a cheaper price than all the adult teachers around here. How would I go about marketing myself?
First question: Have you done piano exams? If you are in north America, go for RCM (royal conservatory of music). What level have you achieved? They are going to look for someone who is a higher level, to insure that you can teach the kids.
Second question: Which method are you going to teach? Are you a Suzuki person? Do you like Fletcher? Alfred? Bastien? Faber?
Third Question: Do you know the requirements to move up the examination levels? I would recommend you get yourself a piano syllabus and learn it WELL
These are the types of questions an informed parent will ask you. Can you answer them?
As far as marketing yourself, I would write up a little biography for example:
Jane Do has been playing piano for ___ years. She is an experienced musician who would like very much to pass her knowledge and love of music down to other people. Jane has achieved grade _____ (or performers or teachers) through __________ (exam organization, like RCM). For more information please Contact Jane Do at ___________.
Or something along those lines. One of the best ways to market yourself is by word of mouth. Tell all your friends. Make up an add. Ask your local elementary schools if they will let you put it up. You can also contact your local piano teachers association. If you are well qualified they will probably add you to their lists, so that when students from you area call looking for a teacher, they will have your name and number. Depending on where you are from, this may cost you a small amount, but is definitely worth it. Being recognzied like that by one of those associations says you are well qualified. Another option would be to contact your local examination agency (like RCM) and see if they will add you to their teacher list. Again, if you are well qualified they will, and this looks very good to prospective students.
Good luck
Would piano lessons help me with playing the oboe?
A lot of people have told me that I should get piano lessons because it would help me with oboe. I have always wanted to take piano lessons, but I don’t have a private instructor for oboe right now so should I focus on finding one or should I look into piano lessons?
I have been oboe for about 3 years and have been witout an instructor for almost a year.
It will open you to knowledge about music you might not learn by sticking to oboe. If you can’t get oboe lessons, why not take piano? Unless you don’t have one to practice on, there’s no reason not to. It sounds like you’re a pretty serious musician and this will broaden your knowledge.
Good luck!
‘A Sleepin’ Bee’ (Harold Arlen) – Solo Jazz piano lesson
‘A Sleepin’ Bee’ (Harold Arlen) – Solo Jazz piano lesson.
This was one of the standards that Bill Evans played and recorded – there have been later solo piano recordings by, among others, Andre Previn. There is a leadsheet on page 322 of Sher Music’s ‘New Real Book’ Volume 1. This was improvised from the leadsheet and recorded as a midi file – and the transcription was derived from this midi file. The computer program used was ‘PowerTracks Pro Audio’ which will automatically take a piano midi file and split it into bass and treble clefs. This has to be edited and corrected fairly heavily, but it certainly makes the job easier! The comments/annotations were added later.
The printable transcription as a pdf file is on my DVD (140 plus transcriptions and over 9 hours of instructional video for $25 – go to http://www.bushgrafts.com for details
