I simply want to make myself available early in the day specially for homeschool students. I know music is important for everyone and I know that not every homeschool parent can offer music to their kids.

1 – Depending on the population around you, it will be a challenge, especially if your in a small city.
2 – I would prepare an email proposal and send it out to each organization in your area.
3 – I know your looking for homeschool, but utlimately you have to ask yourself if you are undercutting yourself by not looking elsewhere for work
4 – If anyone else is looking for help learning the violin, I would suggest taking a look over 100 videos which will help you at http://kl.am/violin

Let the local school music teachers know. Make up something they can put on the bulletin board. Same way at the Music store. You can use Craig’s List.
To get started you could see if the music stores need violin teachers.
Good Luck

Currently I am learning devil’s trill and I dont know how to add in any dynamics such as pp. How do I do this?

I cant ask my violin teacher as she is on hoilday lol Xd

Please help!!!!!!!

To play quietly (pp) tilt the bow towards you so that not as many hairs contact the strings. Then use as little weight from your right arm as possible.

To play loudly (ff) keep the bow flat against the strings and let gravity pull your bow arm down heavily. Also, try using pressure with your index finger on the bow.

Hope I helped!

Because after i play for five minutes my shoulders start to hurt and so do my arms from supporting the violin and my hand supporting the violin starts to sag, and my violin teacher always gets mad at me. Is there a way that i can improve the time i hold my violin up, such as arm exercises or anything.
yet another violin question> http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080707204909AA8nl87&r=w

This question is quite difficult to answer because I can’t actually see how you’re holding the violin but I will give a few suggestions anyway.

If you have just taken up playing the violin, then it is natural for those muscles to hurt because they’re not used to working that hard to keep the violin up.

If you have been playing the violin for a while now, it might be because of your posture. Posture, in violin is very important. It determines your confidence and the quality of the sound. Here are a few suggestions to help your posture.
- Have a straight back to start with (then you won’t be a cripple and your back won’t hurt)
- The violin should be held on the side of you, not in front of you (this determines your confidence and the quality of the sound. The sound will travel directly to the audience)
- Hold your violin up so it is level with your nose (this is also part of confidence)

As for your teacher, I think he/she does not understand your difficulties. I suggest you find a better violin teacher. Ask your local music store for good violin teachers.

I hope this has helped, good luck!

My violin teacher is trying to sell this antique 1907 4/4 violin made by A. Glander. But my family doesn’t believe it is worth 1000 including new red wood pegs, a higher chin rest, and marinated wood from Europe. It was delivered from Europe from one of her close friends so please. Can anyone find any info on A. Glander? PLEASE ANSWER A.SAP!

You need to take it to a specialist and have it appraised. The age and maker alone do not make it a good or a bad instrument.

Don’t just go to the corner music store. Look for a respected violin repair shop. Find out who does the work on symphony members’ instruments in your area. Prior to making an instrument purchase, it is perfectly reasonable to have it appraised for value. If the instrument is particularly valuable, you will want to have a rider added to your parents’ homeowners insurance to cover it.

When I purchased my concert cello, I was very glad to know the actual value of the instrument, bow, and case. My cello has an import tag from 1916 but the original maker tag has been lost. Only an expert can assess the workmanship, tone, sound, and value of the instrument.
When I sold my practice cello several years ago, I was not at all insulted when the prospective buyers wanted to take it to their teacher for her opinion prior to completing the sale.

Older instruments can be tricky. My cello has a wonderful sound that has aged nicely over the years. But if an instrument has been dormant in a closet or attic for years, it can take a long time for the sound to "wake up" again. An instrument purchase is a highly personal one. If you like the instrument, $1000 is pretty reasonable. Many of the new plywood, beginner violins retail in the $600 to $800 range so it is likely that you have a very good deal in your hands.
